Wild Rose is a medicine of beauty, devotion and protection.
Dog roses are not the cultivated rose. She is the hedgerow rose — wild, simple and fleeting. Each blossom opens for only a few days before her petals fall back to the earth.
Long associated with Venus, rose has been revered for centuries as a flower of the heart. She is bloom and thorn, tenderness and truth. Rose carries the ancient teaching that the heart may remain open while still being protected. She reminds us that strength and softness are not opposites — they are kin.
These blossoms were gathered by my hands beneath the full moon from the wild dog roses growing along the ancient hedgerows of Kernow (Cornwall).
Wild rose flowers only briefly each summer. It is within this small window that the medicine is gathered, capturing the sweetness and vitality of early summer in the land.
